Now Poonam’s been my dearest friend
But Oberoi is about to send
Sanjiv and Poonam to the land of the Nile
And they will be there for quite a while.
Between us there have been no walls
We’ll still have our endless calls
Distance bothers not the caller
The world is daily getting smaller.
We often sit here side by side.
And if we need we do confide.
But company is all we seek
Sometimes we have no need to speak.
How I wish Poonam would stay
For when dear Poonam goes away
I will miss those tête ̀a têtes
Long distance calling never lets
Us get really quite that close
And I will miss my Poonam dose.
And Poonam will miss 1501
The room with a view that can stun.
She’ll also miss Mistry Manor
Which figures in her daily planner.
She wants her dad but needs her mum
And I think Poonam’s rather numb
At the thought of leaving them.
For when a fruit leaves a stem
And wanders off to a different land
It’s hard for us to understand.
Yes, we’re about to sever
But Poonam won’t be gone forever
Both family and all her friends
Will visit her from the ends
Of the earth and one reckons
That for Poonam too Bombay beckons.
A few short hours on the flight
And Poonam will be back in sight
The Afternoon column can only get better
For now it’ll be an Egyptian letter.
Heart warming messages will still be there
An SMS does not quite care
What distance separates two ends
It only knows that we are friends.
