The Godrej Group has been around
And yet our customers have found
We can still be young at heart
Our youngsters all have played a part.
The young leaders forum one remembers
And the role of younger family members.
Businesses have been amassed
As hundred and seventeen years have passed.
Generation changes have been seen
And right now we are in between
The coming fourth and outgoing third.
But I will start with a word
About an earlier generation change.
My father was a technocrat
For technology he'd always bat
But business left him some what cold
So he did something rather bold
Thanks to my brother's MBA
He mostly let him have his way.
He had studied at MIT,
Where, when just twenty-one, you see,
He was both Bachelor and Master.
And few have ever done it faster!
Once back home he started work.
No matter what, he’d never shirk,
Just twenty million was then the size.
Adi set out to modernise-
MBA’s were soon recruited
And cars for managers were mooted.
The marketing was revamped,
And those who couldn’t change decamped.
He introduced cost accounting
And soon the sales started mounting.
But hair dye was his greatest coup
And over the years it grew and grew.
This started back in '63
And after all these years you see
Group Chairman is his current role
He's set an ambitious goal.
My cousin and I joined somewhat later
The Group has grown to be much greater.
The fourth generation's been trickling in.
Undoubtedly there have been
Some tensions as new ways are sought
Some arguments are strongly fought.
Through dialogue we find solutions
Often we reach good resolutions
Through elder's wisdom and youthful passion
And give and take we can then fashion
A consensus that helps to propel
Our Group in ways that work quite well.
