Sustainable Food
It is no longer Climate Change
Within a tolerable range.
A crisis is what it’s about
With fires, floods as well as drought.
Every week a constant blast,
Far worse than seen in the past.
If we must, we will adapt
Prevention though would be more apt.
There is a cost to adaptation,
It’s rising fast in every nation
As well as for the world at large.
This will be a heavy charge.
In fact we should all conclude
Prevention would be far more shrewd.
It actually would cost much less
And avoid a lot of stress.
At the Godrej Industries Group
Green Energy is in the loop.
We constantly strive to be clean
64% of our energy’s green!
Wind and solar are certainly there
But biomass has the lion’s share.
Biomass based cogeneration
Is ideal for a continuous operation
This is indeed the perfect scheme
If you need both electricity and steam!
Our cost of water is not so high
But yet we do attempt to try
To reduce our water consumption
But all the same it's a safe assumption
Our water use won't disappear
And so to be neutral I fear
We will have to mitigate.
Though fortunately I can state
That developing a watershed
Doesn't cost much and instead
Our agribusiness can benefit.
The government will do its bit
But where it fails we'll fill the breach
And hopefully we will reach
Many farmers on the cheap.
But the benefits that we reap
Will compensate for the cost
And once again nothing's lost.
We’ve developed 10,000 hectares of land.
The water sequestered, we understand
Is thirteen times what we use.
Don’t you think this is great news!
But we will have to make haste
In reducing plastic waste.
Most of the plastics in the trade
Regrettably don’t biodegrade.
For components that last very long
This isn’t all that bad or wrong.
But when you use and then dispose
The problem then rapidly grows.
Now plastic waste is a pain
On land and sea, it’s such a bane.
Microplastics harm our health
Without good health, what use is wealth.
We need plastics that biodegrade
More and more are being made.
In India too, they’re on the way
A major role they will play.
We’ll soon, I hope, have at a low cost
Good plastics that we can compost
And also those that biodegrade.
A real boon for the trade.
As far as goes for the other kind
We should always bear in mind
We must recycle or reuse
Or else repurpose and reduce.
It must be clearly understood
Waste management has to be good.
At GIG we’re making haste
To reduce our plastic waste.
By working all along the chain
There is, indeed, so much to gain.
Thanks to product redesigning
Our plastic use is declining.
We are recycling more and more
We will certainly make sure
That we safely dispose the rest.
We should all do our very best.
The task is hard, the task is tall.
Collectively let’s take the call.
If all of us collaborate
The outcome will be truly great.
On all these fronts we must strive
And if we do, we’ll surely thrive.
Let us always take the lead.
This will ensure that we succeed.
