With fires, floods as well as drought.
Every week a constant blast
Far worse than seen in the past.
If we must, we will adapt
Prevention though would be more apt.
There is a cost to adaptation,
It’s rising fast in every nation
As well as for the world at large.
And this will be a heavy charge.
In fact we should by now conclude
Prevention would be really shrewd.
It actually would cost much less
Indeed avoid a lot of stress.
Air pollution is on the rise.
And tackling this would be wise.
Immediately all of us must
Reduce production of polluting dust.
Reducing every harmful emission
Not merely carbon should be the mission.
On renewable energy India’s strong
We have pursued this very long.
Intermittent production is a bane.
The cost of storage is a pain.
Lithium reserves are hard to find.
This could put us in a bind.
Peak time pricing can be an aid
As storage needs can be down played.
With new storage systems we can succeed.
They are indeed an urgent need.
Are there alternatives that we see
For safe base-load energy?
Modular nuclear comes to mind.
In India we can certainly find
Different kinds of biomass
Groundnut shells, straw or bagasse.
High energy bamboo’s on the way.
A major role it can play!
The energy density is high.
It’s something that we need to try.
Much progress we will see
With the latest technology.
If India is to achieve its goal
Technology must play a role.
The right incentives are what we need
If they’re in place, we can succeed.
Regenerative agriculture has a role to play.
Tree borne food is another way.
In India Oil Palm will rapidly grow.
From Pongamia many benefits flow.
New varieties have high yield.
Unlike oilseeds grown in the field
The roots and trunks are a carbon store
For many years they can endure.
Better AgTech in the field
Can greatly increase the yield.
If our inputs are precise
The cost reduction’s very nice.
The input reduction can be great
If our technologies regenerate
The topsoil. Why let it degrade?
It may cost a little more
But yields will improve for sure.
If we provide the finance we need
Together we can all succeed.
The returns take time but are high.
This is something we must try.
If we properly apportion risks and gain,
The future benefits outweigh the pain.
Promising technologies should be tried
If early stage funds are supplied
Costs will fall as we scale
A strategy that cannot fail.
Don’t you think it would be wise
For the government to incentivise
Technologies at the early stage
And reap the benefits as they age?
Climate disasters we can avoid
With new technologies quickly deployed.
Time’s running out and that’s a fact.
I’m personally resolved to act.
Yes, corporate action can be a hit,
But everyone must do their bit.
Reduce your waste, plant a tree,
Consume less electricity.
No matter whether big or small
Just take the sustainable call.
Do not do it in isolation
Spread the word in every nation.
Another role the youth can play
Is to find a novel way.
Technology can save the day
Good startups have a role to play!
Once the youth have seen the light
Our future will be very bright.
