Jane Goodall’s exalted stature
Arises from her love of nature.
Ever since she was a child
She longed to live in the wild.
A childhood book about Tarzan
Inspired her to follow the Apeman.
Though it was a cause of pain
That he married another Jane!
Such an aspiration can be tough.
But once she had saved enough
She boldly decided to sail away
And arrived in Africa one day.
Then Louis Leakey was a star.
His research had gone very far.
Early humanoids he understood
And yet he thought it would be good
If the great apes were studied well.
There was much more that one could tell.
In good time she found her way
And landed up in Gombe.
Many truths were unfurled
That surprised all the world.
Chimpanzees share many of our genes
It’s no surprise that Gombe scenes
Replicate our daily life
Both the joys and the strife.
Chimpanzees use tools with skill
But they also fight and kill.
Like in humans one can foretell
Success if mothers nurture well.
To spread her message she has been astute
And set up the Jane Goodall Institute.
The messages that she moots
Are duly spread by “Roots and Shoots”
Climate change is cause for fear.
Jane’s message we should clearly hear.
She’ll show you how to use your mind.
And show you ways that you can find
Solutions that can be unfurled
For the betterment of our world!
